About me

I am a poet and a potter dividing my time between designs and lines (lines of poetry, that is)!

As an artist, I handbuild "spirits": benevolent characters who offer support, whismy, courage and dreams.  I sell my work at local galleries (Woman Craft, Fusion, Spiral Studios) and also present at crafts fairs and events.

I am a North Carolina native and love combing  our beaches for shells and driftwood. In the forests, I gather cedar limbs and feathers to adorn my spirits. (Hawk and turkey feathers are my favorites.)

I  dabble in throwing  pots  and sometimes make birdhouses and other pieces. RIght now, I am working on small pitchers for pancake syrup.

As a poet, I am working on my fourth collection.  I love giving readings and being involved in the local poetry community.  I have two published chapbooks of poetry and one full length manuscript.

I have taught poetry and creative writing at Duke University, The North Carolina   Writers' Network, and the Arts Center in Carrboro. For 35 years I directed the literary arts program for Health Arts Network at Duke.

I hope to meet you soon at a festival, a gallery or a poetry reading!      greybbrown@yahoo.com

Here are the pancake syrup pitchers I have been working on. If you use syrup that needs to be refridgerated, it is a bummer to put cold syrup on your cakes!  Just pour a little (you only need a little, right) syrup into your pitcher and pop it in the microwave for about 30 seconds. The pitchers are made of stone ware with food safe glazes and are microwave safe. These little guys will keep your syrup popping hot, melting your butter and yum! I will have these available at Centerfest and the Last Friday in Hillsborough

This is one of the first clay pieces I ever made. I must have been six or seven and I was at a clay class at the Children's Museum in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. My teachers liked the piece because the pig is smiling. I can't believe I have him after all these years. He lives on the window sill in my kitchen.

And this is the first "spirit" I made (I did not call her a spirit then.) I was with my daughters at the beach. Like every year, I brought along craft supplies. A few feathers, a polymer clay face, a pom-pom and she appeared. I consider her the grandmother of all the spirits who came after!
